In september 2003 we applied for money from "Aase Marie Petersen and Hans Peter Petersens legacy" for the PRA-project. We applied for NOK 100.000,- ( EURO 11.619,-). 20th January we recieved
the plesant message that the amount of NOK 100.000,- ( EURO
11.619,-) was granted. The amount has been transfered to
the Norwegian Veterinary School, to be at NSSKs disposal when

The PRA-project started in October 2002. That means that the PRA-fund has been active a little more than one year. The purpose with the PRA-project is to find the DNA-gene for PRA on shetland sheepdogs. When we find this gene we will be able to bloodtest a sheltie to find out if he is a PRA-carrier or not. This will help the breeding program to avoid to breed PRA affected dogs in the future. The PRA-fund have up
to day be supported by: To start the research we need about 80 bloodtests from good PRA-families. That means from PRA-affected dogs and their closest families. It is therefore very important to find as many dogs in a PRA-family as possible, to have them blood tested and eye tested. Unfortunately the ownership of many of this dogs are unknown, and we are therefore searching for the owners of the dogs at this link. If you know some of these owners, please contact us. The PRA-fund has now 2/3 of the amount we need to start the research and we still need 20 bloodtests. We hope for a broad support for the PRA-fund. Kind regards The board of |
